Overview

The 2011 BMW 7 Series is a full-size luxury sedan with fresh styling, enhanced power, and an updated version of BMW's xDrive control system. It is available in 750i, 750xDrive, 750Li, 750Li xDrive and 760Li Sedan trims Sedan trims. BMW 7 Series flagship sedan gives fans an opportunity to enjoy the model that combines luxury amenities with sheer driving dynamics.

Power and performance

Powering both models - the 750i and 750Li, is a 4.4-liter twin turbocharged V8 rated to give 400 hp and 450 pounds-feet of torque, borrowed from the BMW X6. The engine relies on a torque-converter six-speed automatic gearbox that sends power to the rear wheels. The E-Shift lever is now positioned on the center console (like a floor shift), moving from its earlier position on the steering column, thus allowing for a more conventional way of shifting through gears. For the first time, in a BMW passenger car, there is a multilink double-wishbone setup in the front and a trendy, V-shaped link system for increased comfort in the rear. The rear air-suspension system on the extended wheelbase limo is the only difference between the two sedans, in terms of comfort. The 6.0 -liter, V-12 engine in the RWD 760Li Sedan pumps out a massive 535 horsepower.

Body and styling

The 7 Series boasts of typical BMW styling with a wide muscular stance, smooth flowing lines, athletic proportions, and the famous "signature" kidney grille. The car now comes equipped with Efficient Dynamics technologies as standard. The roof, side panels, doors, and bonnet are made from aluminum to maintain a lightweight advantage. The cabin is a statement in fine leather, polished wood, electronic razzle-dazzle, and a trendy high-tech Black Panel instrument cluster, probably the most luxurious interiors yet, on the 7 Series. Other innovative technology includes the world's most advanced Night Vision system. BMW was the first manufacturer to fit Night Vision in a premium car, now upgraded to include a pedestrian recognition system. The 7 Series is also the world's first car available with a Side View camera system, which heightens driver awareness, in addition to Park Distance Control to aid slow speed maneuvering. Active Roll Stabilization will be part of the Sport Package along with BMW's trendy Integral Active Steering. BMW's Dynamic Driving Control, which regulates the suspension, throttle response, shifts and power steering, is also standard on the 7 Series. BMW's iDrive control for audio, navigation, and climate settings includes a navigation system and wireless cell phone link. All models get adaptive headlights, obstacle detection, and BMW Assist - emergency and concierge services as standard. MP3 player connectivity and satellite radio are also available along with a night-vision system, adaptive cruise control, and DVD entertainment.

Safety features include BMW's Advanced Safety System for integrated deployment of passive and active safety features. Driver's and passenger's front airbag supplemental restraint system (SRS); front-seat side-impact airbags; dual-stage deployment; front-passenger seat sensors designed to prevent unnecessary airbag deployment; front safety belts with automatic pre-tensioners; automatic-locking retractors (ALR) on all passenger safety belts; front and rear Head Protection System (HPS); active knee protection; active front head restraints; and BMW Assist with Bluetooth integrated wireless communication system are standard.
